09-Sign of Four Paper Draft

Post a 250-500 draft of your paper on The Sign of Four before class on Thursday Feb 7th.  In-class, each of your should read and post your suggetions for how the paper might be improved using the comment function at the bottom of that paper’s posting.   

For Saturday Feb 9th by 5pm write a 3-4 page paper (typed and double spaced) on The Sign of Four.  Write about the methods Sherlock Holmes uses to solve his cases.  Include as many components of Holmes method as you can and cite specific examples from the stories to back up your points.  Conclude by taking a position on whether Holmes’ methods or methods are scientific and why.  For proper documentation formats, see Diana Hacker’s Research and Documentation Online. 

Supplemental reading:  you may want to read the first two chapters of A Study in Scarlet in developing your analysis and consider whether the demonstrations at the beginning of the stories introduce methods Holmes uses in solving his cases.
