In this the fair finally opens. The crowd was huge. Burnham was surprised with the turnout. The work of the fair was not complete yet. Ferris wheel was not working as well as some other parts of it. Still the crowd sounded very excited. Holmes opened his new restaurant as his new trap to get more woman . They were all up for his charm.
Burnham was pleased with the turnout. He did not imagine it was going to be that huge. He was glad that everything finally got together and the exposition was ready to go. The ticket money was raised. People from a lot of places came to the fair to see what it has to offer. However the economic depression blew it. It started getting slow eventually.
Soon the closing day came. Prendergast killed President Harrison as a result it wasn’t a festive closing. Eventually the city became dirty, full of crime, and poverty. This symbolized the white city turning dark and dirty. The president sends in troop to Chicago to cause more order. Also they started to suspect Holmes for the murders and they realized that Holmes was behind those murders.

The second part of the book gets very interesting with Holmes Murdering continuously. It surprises me that he does those murder in a cool mind, when reading them even scares me. In this part his next target is Minnie and her sister. However some people started to see Holmes out of his charm. Holmes realized that too and he was aware that is his end. On the other hand Burnham tries his hard to find someone to do the outdo the architecture of The Eiffel Tower, however he has hard time finding realistic design. The fair was not turning into what he wanted. Planning seemed much harder than it seemed. There were unfavorable situations. And with the dedication day on its way, Burnham got really worried.

As Cholera was spreading throughout London there were numerous theories of it. It eventually got down to two groups. The first one was the contagionist and the second one was Miasmist. The contagonist believed that cholera was contagious and it spread through soil or other medium. The Miasmic believed that Cholera was caused by rotten smell from the air. But majority of the people believed in the Miasmic theory as it made sense to them and it was easier to believe.
John Snow, anesthetics got very interested with Cholera. Though he was a very good doctor and had a position in the upper class London society still he was more into cure any disease than just be in the formalities of the upper society. Snow did not believe in any of the two theories about cholera.
He started to trace back the sequence of what was happening . He came to realize that water was the reason for Cholera. He started requesting records from the doctors about the patients who died and from what pump they got their water. Soon Snow came to realization that it was caused by water.
Whitehead played a huge role on this part. He was curious about Cholera too as he knew all the people very well and their death was hurtful for him. But he was confused what to do. This part of the book also questions Whitehead’s reason to stay in that area when everyone was leaving.

This is a very interesting documentary. Most of the people know that Newton is a genious who created calculus and discovered gravity with his famous apple theory. At the begining the documentary shows what Newton did at his 20’s and they were amazed by his talent.
The interesting fact that the documentary brings out that Newton practised alchomy secretly. He was a minister of the church but later he was excused. He did not beleive in religion but he believed that there is an superior beaing who is controling the earth with this bewildering system.
Newton finding out the day when Jesus will come back, was a bit surprising. As most of the people about Newton is that he is just a genious who invented so many things that turned around the human life and their view towards world and put science into it. But the documentary shows some other sides of Newton which none of us probably would’ve guessed ever.

The ghost map is a very interesting book. Thuogh it starts out slow but eventually it starts to get very interesting. This part of the book is about the sewer system of London. London was having difficulties with its population explotion and not having a sewer system caused the drinking water source to become a dumpstar. To use the available space efficiently they burried the dead people in one whole so that they will have space to build house.
Cholera broke out in London. No one knew the reason. Eventually they got misguided about the reason. Even the doctors were sayong cholera was caused by the smell of the burial. Truth is it was spreadong from the water they were drinking from the Tames River. It started by Baby Lewis’s mother throwing the fouled water in the river.
Soon it turned to an epidemic and people were dying in the Soho. Hippocrates took advantage of the situation. People who were not even a bit medically educated were coming up with random cure. People died of it. In the book there were even examples of a police man telling the citizens to take heroine.

The Transformation of Dr, Jkyll and Mr. Hyde was some similar in both the movie and the book was a lot similar. However in the movie the expressions are visible so it it clearer. On page 80 of the book the feelings that Dr. Jekyll has over the transformation seemed like he was happy, trying something new. On the movie it seemed like the trasformation gave him joy from getting out off the regular life and trying something new. However that was temporary feelings as at the end of the movie (1932) we can see that the trasformation got out of controll and he couldn’t change it. In the picture we can see a new soul coming out from Dr. Jekyll’s body which was Hyde. However in the movie the trasformation was shown in seperate parts of the body, specially the face transformation.

The movie Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a very interesting adaptation of the book. Though in the book it seemed more detail. The movie was interesting, funny at the same time. In the movie Dr. Jekyll seemed mych younger than the book mentions his age was . Another interesting point to bring out is, in the story Poole , Mr. utterson and the maids inside the house have seen Mr. Hyde atleast once, however in the story no one have seen this friend of Dr. Jekyll until the moment he dies.
In the movie Murel, Dr. Jekyll’s fiance and the other lady had a significant part, but in the book they don’t apprear at all . Poole had an active role in the story than in the movie. In the movie Poolie is nothing but the loyal servant but in the book he seems to go to Mr. Utterson to help his master.
Also in the book there is a mention of a will that Dr. Jakyll has inherited, and Mr. Utterson was worried that Hyde has only showed up because of this will. In the movie there was no mention of it at all.
When reading the book at first it was boring however it turned very interesting at the end. The movie was interesting and it featured both Hyde and Jekyll in the same ratio and the choriography turned out very funny. Though it is understandable because the flim was made in 1932.
I enjoyed the movie.

After watching the documentary in class I felt that I wish could be there. It looks so beautiful and amazing. The things that attracted me the most from the Exhibition is are the Carl hall, the statue of the columbian ship, the key that the whole crowd could see, as it reflects on light. I also liked the Midway Planisance which connected the Johnson Park and the Washington park and was the main area of attraction during the exhibition. To write the paper I am thinking about both prompt 1 and 2. However it seems like I am leaning towards prompt 2.

In the first part of Devil in the White City it starts with an introduction to the Chicago city and the development that has been going around that time. In this chapter mainly the characters are introduced. The characters are Burham, Root, H. Holmes etc. Oh this part we can see that there was a voting for the columbian exhibition. There was competition between New York and Chicago. At the end the Windy City ( Chicago) wins. All the joy and excitement of hosting the Columbian exhibition , turned out a lot difficult than assumed. Burham with Root got the responsibility to plan the fair’s architecture and their mission was to outcast the Eiffel tower and go beyond the world’s fair at Paris. The economy and weather seemed to be an obstacle however it did not seem like to stop them to plan the exhibition.Another character to notice in this part is H. Holmes. He is a young man who is addicted to woman . He is very nice with people and manipulates them with his lovely behavior.

The Master and Commander is the best movie yet that we have watched. It is a very interesting movie. Basically the movie is about naval warfare in early times. Eventually technology changes everything. Some interesting things in this movie is that it was not clear the real purpose of their expedition. However it seemed like that they wanted to make some natural science discovery too. It is interesting how the young boys like Peter took charge of the boat. I liked the part were they made a fake replica of their boat to survive from the technologically better one. At the end there were a lot blood, and death which makes it a little sad. Over all I loved the movie.
