The section starts out with British using the wrong option for stopping the chloerm. They decided to just bleach everything to take the smell away from the broad street area. This section also introduces Chadwick who is basically started the idea that the government should provide healthy environment. Chadwick’s idea on government where right but Chadwick’s idea to take the smell away from the infected area was wrong. They actually make it worst by eliminated any private cesspools. This made the possibility of get cholera even more likely. This turned the isolated cholera into a city wide infection. What they tried to show is that the English government looked at the two theories and chooses the theory that was cheapest. After they found out that this would fix the problem, they go with snow theory and they were not able to fix the problem quickly , because they could apply a city wide public health to the problem. First problem to the problem of in London was Overcrowding and number two the lack of public health.

Ghost Map part 2

Part two of ghost map talks about the cholera killing more and more people. Then it talks about the two heroes of the story Snow and Whiteman. Snow is a person of poor background that turn in to one of the greatest scientist of his time. He is the Queen physician and he is responsible of finding a way to stabilize the use of anesthesiology. The narrator says that Snow got involved because he worked in a mine and the people their got cholera. Snow worte a journal and said that problem of cholera came from the sewer being mixed with the water supply. Whiteman agree with Snow’s idea and they began to work together.

Ghost Map

The book Ghost Map talks about sanataion in general. It talks about london, how it was severly overcrowded. That even thought it was the most industrialized country in the world it had a lot of poverty and health risk. They had homeless that would go around  and  pick up  bones.  They  had  vast  problem  with  there  water  it  smelt  horrible  and  had  a  odor but the people still drunk it. They then time about chroniclogical order a story starting with this family start 3 sucsessful buisnneses and the city of london began to tear apart one side good and one side bad. The people didn’t care about the health risk intil on august 28 a baby began vomiting, green fecies and nobody new why.

The second chapter talks about the mother of the baby dying. They belive that she died from a bacteria called cholera. They notice that it began to have death around broadstreet pump, which was thought to be safe. Cholera goes inside your small intestines and it grows there. Cholera was to be nearly no exstined until people started living in city that where overpopulated. This epademic brought scientist  around the  world  to study the area and find out why there why there was so many dead people.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Transformation

The picture of the transformation from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde is amazing for it time. To see something like that in the 1880’s. It is amazing to watch, it is cool how they show to see a man on stage to turn into a savage beast and almost look like a primate. In the book you have to image what it looks like as the transformation is begin told, but watching it is better. A diffrence is that in the book Jekyll made it seems as the transformation made him feel good, but the play made it look like good from evil. Also the transformation seems in the book as he woke up from a sickness. The actor must be great to watch.

Dr. Jeklly and Mr. Hyde

The movie is different from the novel.

1. The book is told as a mystery and the movie basically shows sympathy for Dr. Jeklly, that he basically had no control of the death of the girl.

2. The book did not have any main female characters, and the movie added a romantic element.

I like the book better than the movie because of the mystery. The Movie reminds me of the end of the book when you read Dr. Jeklly letter.

Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

The Story start out with Utterson being curious about Mr. Hyde. Utterson belives he is pure evil as he watch Hyde messing with a little girl. Hyde offer to pay them off with a check with Dr. Jekyll name on it. This causes Utterson to become fasinated by him. He asked Jekyll, but Jekyll told him to drop it. And He did. But a year latter a man was beat to death and Hyde was the main suspect.Utterson went to Jekyll house to ask if he was hiding him and he said no. Jekyll said that Hyde wrote him a letter and gave it to Utterson. Utterson took it to a hand writing expert Mr. Guest who said the hand writing of Hyde is similar to Jekyll. Time past and the search for hyde is still going on. Utterson studdently is cut off with comunication from Dr. Jekyll. Jekyll send Utterson a letter saying that he needs to go into isolation. They see Jekyll looking at his window and they watch Jekyll face turn hideous. They go to Dr. Jekyll to inquire about him, but they find out that the servant haven’t seen Dr. Jekyll in 7 day. They break the door down and they find hyde with dr. jekyll clothes. they find a large envelope addressed to Utterson. It first talks about how loyon died. He took some of Dr. Jekyll poition and died.  He also states that Dr. Jekyll is also Hyde. At the end of the letter DR. Jekyll talk about his live

The World Fair open with high attendance even thought some of the exhibits were not ready to be open.  The attendance for the far was very low Burnham knew this was because most of the exhibit such as the Ferris wheel was not operating.  Holmes hotel open it was full with young girls because he did not let males into his hotel.  Many of the girls disappear without paying their bill. This obviously means that these women were killed by Holmes. Prendergast begins to go crazy because he is waiting to get his job with the mayor. This times the entire event where opening up and the attendance of the fair began to rise.  At the Hotel more people were disappearing and Holmes is happy because he is having his dream come true. I think it is kind of weird that they are comparing Burnham to Holmes.  It talks about how Holmes does not take trophies and he is now admitting men and children. Ferris wheel is finally ready to be used and there was a visit from the Spanish embassy. Minnie sister came to Chicago and they went to the fair every day. They saw the first electric chair, the telephone, movies and many other new inventions of the time. Minnie decides to stay the whole summer. Pitezel is also his assistant in removing the dead body. Ferris is starting to get mad that the Ferris wheel is not the main attraction. Burnham is starting to become more of a tyrant and a control freak in the fair and want the fair done his own way. The Ferris wheel has finally opened and it was a big attraction.  Attendance doubled and the fair is becoming bigger and bigger. Burnham dream is finally being realized. Things are starting to work out better and are more aligned with his original plans. Holmes seems to want to get back to work. It seems that his time with Anna and Minnie is almost at a close. The attendance at the Exposition was over 200,000 people for Independence Day. The financial depression at this time the fair is starting to feel the depression at this time in America. They had to raise ticket prices. Holmes killed Anna and Minnie and put their body in crates. Burnham world is beginning to be torn apart because there was a fire and there was a large tornado. But this shows that the Ferris wheel is dings so well that it barley moves. This talks about how they fair brought romance and also Holmes has a new women named Georgiana Yoke.  She is so naïve and doesn’t realize that he changed his name because he is still married. Retrenchment Committee resigned after the Exposition Company refused to give them full control of all expenditures. Burnham retains control of the Exposition and attendance is finally rising but, the economy outside the White City was diminishing. He knows attendance is still the main problem of the Exposition. Prendergast is growing angry. He feels betrayed by Harrison. Harrison declare Chicago day and on that day attendance at the fair was 750,000 people, beating Paris all-time total. The fair is finally toward ending and it added to the unemployment. Holmes burned his hotel but he was not able to get the insurance money. Holmes went to Texas to get Minnie’s land.  He took Pitezel and Georgianna with him and he insured Pitezel life before they left Chicago. Closing day of the Fair was turned into a funeral because Prendergast killed Harrison. The fair has finally ended and city became dirty, full of crime, and poverty. This show that the white city is turning to the dark city. The president sends in troop to Chicago to cause more order. At this time Holmes is finally a suspect, he is beginning to be connected to the crimes.

Devil in the White City

In this part of the Devil in the White city it starts out with adding elements to the fair such as light, land and designers. Then it goes to Holmes breaks a family apart. Ned and Julia get divorced and Holmes said he was going to marry her but doesn’t. Holmes sells the pharmacy to Ned but he inherits all of Holmes legal problem. During the whole time he is smiling and enjoying it. Then he tells Julia if she gets a abortion he will marry her. But he kills her. Then Holmes ask a woman name Emuline to marry him and she says yes. Who then “disapeared in Europe” but you know that Holmes killed her. Holmes now owns a acholism center and part of a company. Holmes is looking for a secatary and runs in to Minnie Williams who he met in Boston. He asks her to marry him and she said yes.Holmes then manipulats Minnie into signing over the majority of her inheritance without even realizing it. They then got married but their was no record of it. The fair is now approaching and city of Chicago is getting pressure to deliver a good fair. Holmes then asks Minnie to invite her sister to the fair. At the end of the chapter we are at the begining of the fair and holmes put an ad in the paper for his hotel

Devil in White City

The book start talking about how dirty chicago is and all the type of people that come throught the train system. Then it goes to Holmes getting off the train. Everybody in the town are anxious to see if they will be hosting the next worlds fair. It talks about that the people in chicago want to host the world fair to show america that they are not just a bunch of ruthless greedy people. Congress was planning to finish the voting the next day but then the people started to boo. Congress decide to finish first. While this is going on Daniel Burnham and John Root are hoping that the city will host it because they know they will be hired to build the fair. Chicago won as the place to host the world fair and Burnham and Root where contacted to build the fair. Then the story goes to Herman Mudgett a person new to Chicago. Then goes the Holmes who seem to be broke and married to clara lovering.  Then they talk about how he left his wife. He then became a small parmacist. Then later Holmes bought the pharmacy. Then people started to respect him because he bacame wealthy. Then it jumps back into the present with the Exposition commitee coming to chicago. They had came to offically put Burnham and Root in charge of the project. They also named Olmested to be the landscaper of the project. They also decide the fair should be in the jackson area.  Then Dr. Holmes married Myrta Z. Belknap and ended up getting a devorced.  Holmes then change his name into H. S. Campbell, he purchased the lot across the street from his pharmacy. He finds out that the Fair will be close to his store.Daniel Burnham got 5 arictect to work on the designs of the world fair. Then they talk about all 5 of the artichetcs and where they are from.  Burnham was worried about the depresion of america.  Holmes turned his building into a hotel to accomadate for the fair.  He then asked Uncle John to lend him some money.  Burnham then meet with the ariteches and told them that he wants the building to be a shock to the east.  Then they talk about the police department and how if you did not have money they would not help you. Burnham began to make the new designs for the building and their is sign that money is going to  be a problem for the fair.
